Day trippers to Hawkesbury....

Another busy day out, today Bucketty 1 and Bucketty 9 crews responded to bushfire approx 7km down Settlers Road. On arrival we found a going fire contained on 2 sides by the road and track beyond and uncontained front running into the bush and steep country beyond. As it was in Yengo National Park we requested additional assistance from NPWS who arrived swiftly and in prudent time followed by 2 units from St Albans Brigade.
A lot of hand tool work put in containment lines down into the valley along 2 sides to stop the fire running along the valley sides but up on the top of the cliff sudden wind changes had crews working vigorously just to keep things on the one side of the track as the fire jumped containments and made their job that much harder. They did excellent work keeping things in order until the sounds of heavy rotors signaled the arrival of air support dropping in water to calm things down enough to give the foot crews the opportunity to get everything contained.

By 1500 we were pretty much all contained and Brigades standing down as NPWS continued to manage final black out and mopping up.

A hard days work but an excellent result and wonderful to work across Zones with neighbouring Brigades and our friends and fellow firefighters in NPWS. ( and thanks to Jerry's Kitchen courtesy of NPWS for the great lunch )
